What Do You Need To Know About The City Of Calgary

Calgary is the largest city in Alberta with an estimated population of 1,285,711. It is situated at the union of the Bow River and the Elbow River in the south of the province with foothills and prairies. Like other cities in Canada, Calgary is completely developed with all the luxuries one could imagine. It has both state-of-the-art skyscrapers as well as the building of historical value. The economy of the city is controlled by energy, financial services, film and television, transportation, technology, manufacturing, aerospace, health, and wellness, as well as the tourism sector. It is also known to be the most livable city consecutively for the years 2018 and 2019. Just like the other area of America, the areas that are now called Calgary was inhabited by prehistoric Paleoamerican people known for their distinct stone-carved tools. Paleontologists have traced the existence to be around 11,000 years back. As the two rivers flow through the area, the people living here mostly relied on fish. They hunted it and traded it to exchange goods. There are beliefs that the English expeditions explored the area at the end of the 17th century, but the first documented settlement was not recorded until 1873. John Glenn was the first known person to have lived in the area with his wife, Adelaide. Later in 1875, the site became the post for Royal Canadian Mounted Police until 1883 when the first railway station was built in the area. This was the time when Calgary started to gain population and grew into a commercial and agricultural center. However, by the time the name Calgary has not been incorporated. The name “the city of Calgary” was incorporated in 1894. Between the late 18th century and the earliest 19th century, agriculture and ranching became essential factors of the economy. In 1912 the wealthy ranchers organized a small agriculture show which was the most prominent outdoor show on earth. In 1914, the first Calgary Petroleum Products Co was founded which boomed the economy of Calgary. In 1947 another oil refinery was set up in the south of Edmonton which also aided the economy of the city. Calgary faced numerous economic booms and became culturally and economically diversified. The worldwide renouncement of the city was established in 1988 when it became the first Canadian city to host a Winter Olympics. This platform made the city into the limelight, and more investors turned their way toward this city.
